Subject: My competence based on the study of the Business edge program

I hereby respond to your letter that sought a demonstration of my skills from the Business edge program. This letter explains my competence in the program’s scope with specific emphasis on a high level of written communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and excellent time management skills, and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

My time as a student in the program has equipped me with a variety of skills that are applicable in accountancy, my anticipated field of operation with your organization. Written communication skills are one of the class of skills that I acquired from the program. I for instance understand the importance of the type of communication to be made in writing. This is because of the existence of different types of written communications that require different approaches, formats, and formalities. Written communication also has to exhibit a high level of clarity to ensure efficient and effective message delivery to the recipient. This is because a clear message relieves the audience of possible strains in decoding and understanding the message and reduces the chances of the message being neglected by the recipient. My skills in written communication also include the knowledge that such communications should be as short as possible to facilitate clarity of message. Written communication should also have an appropriate tone that considers the audience and should be free from mistakes. An example of written communication is the communication of an organization’s financial position to a potential investor (Guffey and Loewy, 2012).

The program has similarly developed my ability to work as a team player, a factor that will allow me to fit into the accounting department that heavily relies on teamwork. I am particularly able to convey a given piece of information with a high level of clarity in expression. I have also developed a good listening ability that allows me to receive communications from people, understand them, and respond to their needs appropriately. These facilitate interpersonal relationships towards team building and successful teamwork. I have similarly learned to develop a positive attitude to any situation that may arise during interactions with team members. Such a positive attitude helps in managing identified weaknesses among other team members and develops trust toward a cohesive team. Similarly, I have developed patience and the ability to interact with people. While I developed these through practice during the course, their applications have demonstrated their roles in promoting team unity for the successful cooperation in roles (Guffey and Loewy, 2012).

The program has similarly developed my time management skills and the ability to meet tight schedules, a common concern in the accounting department that has a constant flow of information from transactions and the need for financial information by different stakeholders such as the management. I learned of the ability to manage time by listing all my expected activities for a given period, prioritizing the activities, and setting deadlines for each duty. This ensures that I meet the required deadlines. I have also learned, from the course, of the need to focus on one activity at a time, an approach that facilitates efficiency in time consumption and avoids time wastage in transitions between activities at a given time (Griffin, 2007).

My gained skills from the course together with my developed experience from practice therefore identify me as the best candidate for your organization. I am confident in using these skills to add value to the organization.
