Berkley Bristol Personal Profile (as teacher, erase this parenthetical) As a qualified teacher for over eight years, I have always worked towards using a high level of creativity and innovation with the use of a variety of teaching methods and techniques in delivering lessons. In teaching students with differing learning capabilities, I have always set a high standard while providing patience in combination with good listening techniques. My goal has always been to ensure that all student fully participate in classes so that the best possible benefit can be achieved. My intention is to produce a learning environment that fosters creativity and collaboration among the students so that self-expression can be utilized with goal setting skills in order to fulfil personal aspirations as defined by the students, but framed within the learning goals of the class. Summary of Teaching Experience 2010. Supply Teacher (Teaching Agencies in UK) Working as cover/ supply teacher in various secondary schools around London. 2001- 2009. Mahaicony Secondary School, Guyana (Junior Teacher) Visual Arts teacher of the secondary school, responsible for teaching students ages 11 -16. Examiner for final exhibited examination art pieces. Guiding and rendering support to other junior teachers within the department. My work creates a symbiotic relationship between the two cultures, providing both the sadness of the losses that are experienced from leaving one culture and becoming part of another as well as the hope that exists from defining life through the varied experiences as they are represented by both cultural worlds. One of the most important aspects of my work is the use of color in order to express the emotional context of the subject matter. The subjects are representational, but also symbolic of a sociological event that relates to a duality in cultural experiences. The use of color can help to also indict aspect of culture as the use of green, for example, to represent the natural world. In order to further the color story within the work, textiles are included in many of the works in order to represent the colors of the Caribbean culture, the brightly colored fabrics woven in order to create a representation of the interwoven nature of the two cultures. While my work, at present, has been exploring this aspect of thematic content, in the future I imagine that the work will begin to represent expansions on that theme. The exploration of the sameness of humanity as it is defined in separate cultures allows for further explorations on the nature of society. As I explore the many ways in which the different media can be used in order to express the themes of my work, I expect that I will find more and more complex ways in which to interlace the cultural relativities through textural expression.
