CLIENT CENTERED COUNSELLING By Student’s name Course code and name Professor’s name University name City, State Date of submission Abstract We are living in a society that is full of expectations. Sometimes we fail to attain the standards, or will achieve all our means. Through the continuous struggle of human beings, sometimes we need to express our emotions, feelings, minds, anxieties, and fears. However, this can be achieved through the use of counselling tools. People working, students in school, and everybody else is not beyond counselling services. There are several approaches that are highlighted herein and which the clients can be handled with by their counsellors. People have look down on the client centred counselling, which is very vital and subject. Introduction People feel that they are not comfortable with the way they are living, to work in various environments. They miserably find it difficult to seek for counselling either for fear of confidentiality. People have not believed that there are multiple counselling approaches that can be applied to different issues. The client centred counselling is dramatic and allows the client own the solutions from the self-understanding. Individuals reduce or are set free from their emotional distress and other mental anomalies for positive development. Working experiences have many huddles that need to be unravelled. These facets tend to be limiting factor of performance in most organizations. The client centred counselling allows interviewee have opportunity to explore free thinking, and expression of feelings. (Martin, 2013) In the process of client counselling, the therapist has to prepare enough before meeting with him/her. There several patterns that can be used in the preparation of the counselling sessions. When having the first scenario of counselling, it attracts the professional procedure that counsellors should follow as they prepare their clients. What happens at the start and end of a session can make all difference as he finds it (Nemko, 2014). Pauline is a female client who is currently referred to me by his employer. I have decided to use the client centred approach to make my clients decisions as subjective as possible. The first encounter I have prepared the environment to suite the interest of my client who after this process is expected to receive therapeutic healing. Paulina appears to be very cheerful, smiling, and resilience from his outlook. When I see her, there is no feeling of disappointment, frustration, fear, or even anger that can be suspected. However, before we entered the counselling theatre, my warm smile lands on this young adult lady. I make her to feel at home when she just comes for this service. After engaging her for some time she doesn’t seem stressed in any way. I welcome her on the side where there are two chairs. I allow her to choose were to site as I remain closing door behind me. This seems to be interesting. Some may think that only the people who are undergoing depression or even stress are ones who are neighbours for counselling. Those are not correct claims. Once Pauline takes his space, she definitely changes her feelings and appears nervous. Let’s see the process and anything else The first session beginning I greet my client with warm smile once again in the office. I show her a face of authenticity and great expectation from the word go. How are you doing madam? Client; She appears nervous, after some time, Paulina replies that she is just ok! ‘Well, my name is Derrick Moore’. I equally remain humbled to meet you for this session. Have you ever been to any counselling session before?’ Client: She remains quit for a while then finally her response comes,’ NO’. I pick up the talk, ‘ok, thank you for your response. Once again I ask you, do you have any knowledge yet of counselling therapy?’ Client: She still seems to be reluctant, finally Paulina denies. ‘Have never been involved in any of such activity ’. I still go ahead to create the environment that we shall all enjoy. ‘Well, Pauline, don’t worry about anything, and if you still do so, no problem because this is the right place you can worry. There are many different approaches involved in this process. I have trained as client centred therapist. Do you have any problem with me? Client: Not really. Therapist: Wonderful! Have already enjoyed the first view minutes with you. In any case I will want you to have the scope of the counselling process. First, the process will need you more than you need it. We shall have four counselling session. If anything if beyond my understanding I will not hesitate referral. I believe that the nature of humanity is already unique. All people are struggling from problems they are going through. This is in preparation of making optimum potentials to best. Secondly, Pauline, there is no body who can be an expert of your body expert that you express what you feel. Your real self depends on who you want to be. Third, I believe that my clients need to treat with respect and that which we share is very pure and confidential. Anything you tell me is not to be probed for sure. Fourth, the role of this therapeutic relationship is to ensure that your concerns are listed to. This process is unconditional; I again maintain that genuine and authentic is what you have to experience from me. Fifty, your right of making decision is highly honoured. Otherwise all the solutions to problems are within the rich. Sixth, All the process is delivered to you at this beginning. Seven, I will have to ask you some questions in the process. Please understand this is if only I want to get the meaning of what you are feeling. Eight, when understanding the situation, you will discover that I don’t fear anything even when you are nervous as the case are now. Nine, Most of the time I will be paying attention by listening to what you are telling me. Therefore, whatever you are saying is meaningful. Only when you go out of theme then I will guide you. Ten, I may notice many things that you are feeling just as I have done already. What I must promise you; obviously I will be sensitive and never think you have done any mistake. Eleven, I direct to the point honest and cannot hide anything. Twelve, I believe that we have so many feelings those that make us good, and some make us uncomfortable. You will experience me at the end of this. Last but not least, any assignments we shall have you can submit it through may email, that I will give you. All the questionnaires you can feel within some last minutes after the counselling session. Finally, hope you will experience the right moments in this process of therapy. Is that ok. Client: ‘YES ‘ Therapist: ‘Alright, what brings you here today?’ Client: ‘I was referred by my employer, I don’t know either.’ Therapist: ‘you can start from anywhere.’ Client: ‘She is very fearful as well. ‘I was formally referred to this place because my manager discovered a chronic absenteeism from my case. I will say that this was a deliberate situation. Sometimes I actually don’t need to work anymore. Whenever I find time to the work place I feel very inferior and not appreciated.’ Therapist: ‘I can see, ‘what else do you feel when you are at your station.’ Client: ‘So to speak, I don’t think that people relate well with me. Though I feel neglected, I could not show any of these doubts. Ok, even the cultural diversity that is adopted in our organization leaves me out. I fail to understand why have almost lost important relationships with special people in the organization. But this I promise you will never know, I have to approach everybody with a nice. Well, just doing well anyway, I stay resilience.’ Therapist: ‘I really still wonder how you stay with such feeling.’ Client: ‘Ok, since then I was young to this point in time, have really leant to be strong. Sadness, disappointments, grief, and all kinds of feeling have experienced will always remain in my heart. But I know not are can be like me, am I right?’ Therapist: ‘Pauline, ‘it’s possible that you are doing what you have been learning from your experience. But anyway am not against any of the uncomfortable feelings that you go through. Go ahead and share with me more.’ Client: ‘Silent takes the moment for some time, ‘So you mean what I face is that which I deserve?’ Therapist: ‘Not really, I too am feeling the sadness and disappointments as you describe them. Many other people are still affected. Therefore, you are not alone but these are your feelings for now. What is important is find a way to avoid such feeling. Ok?’ Client: ‘I think of that, but don’t imagine if I will.’ Therapist: ‘Its ok, you need not to hurry yet. Just want you to know how I feel when I enter to shoes of Paulina. Knowing exactly how it feel being Paulina.’ Pauline: ‘I understand.’ Therapist: ‘When are you free again, such that I prepare for the next session ahead of us?’ Overview of the client’s problem In the first session of this counselling, am determined to find out information about my client. When the secession is about to set its base, the client seems to be well but in the real sense she has difficulties. The situation is more preceding. One will not understand what people are undergoing in their life until they share. As Pauline struggle to maintain her good relationship she happens to be drawn away by flaws that human beings do know. She finally discloses here experiences. This however is not easy, she appears not willing for any session but she really has problems. Sadness, disappointments, grief, and all kinds of feelings have munched her. a) Poor relationship within and without workplace Pauline seemingly has really regressed from the previous treatments she has received. She has not only lost his touch to the colleague workers, but also important people she should avoid loss are now separated. Not only Pauline has gone through such situation, this is very common in our world today. b) Negligence Indeed lady has a small heart, what happens is that she can carry emotions of all types. Even when she faced negligence from work mates, she has not shown this. However, this doesn’t mean that she is strong. This is a situation that will only finish her. Carl Rodger holds that human beings are naturally good. Why then has Pauline received all this neglect? c) Cultural diversity The organizations can adapt several cultures to accommodate the trend of the life in the society. This is the situation that is not bad, but has affected Pauline deeply. This can be the genesis of the frustration. When changes are made in organization, sometimes not all is done to prepare people; this means that Pauline has a right to be left out and this is may be not her mistake. Aspects that are well done in the counselling Client- centred-The counselling focused on the professional requirement of the person centred approach. This is as developed by the American Psychologist Carl Rodgers. He always insists that for the client- centred counselling to succeed, clients have to be given a humanistic approach. Communication skills -The reputable communication skills will bring nice fruits in the counselling history. There is a demonstrated good communication skill. The client-centred counselling is very powerful tool that help in evoking the client. The problem the client shares are not what the therapist is able to see, but dangerous are those which Pauline share herself. Through the use of this method, robust therapeutic relationships are realized after the interview. Areas of improvement The time between which the client and the therapist are allowed has to be revised. Serious decisions should be made within speculated time. This is to ensure that the process of counselling bear fruits. This method of client- centred, gives the counsellor passive role. They receive guests who become hosts. Conclusion Gracefully to draw out, client centred counselling is noble in retaining and training the individuals self –esteem. There are several other remain sessions of which the client will come back. Meanwhile, at the end of the counselling session the client has some assignment to perform while away. This will leave the therapist revising the notes to understand the psychoanalytical solution that the client can be guided to. Counselling is life. All the right approaches that are applied in this world have the same mission. To deriver people from their continuous stress, depressions, mental and emotional disorders. References Martin, A.
