Extract of sample "Pfizer - Puffery or Deception"

Pfizer should take an advertising approach that uses someone to promote their products who is acceptable to the public. Ideally, the person advertising the product should have some link to it and does not just have an interest in it. The advertising approach should also do without the use of puffery and focus more on the facts because drugs are a serious matter and need to be taken as such. It can be determined that a company has crossed the line between puffery and outright deception when they make a claim that cannot be supported by facts.

It is okay to stretch the truth a little bit in order to make the product look better, but intentionally deceiving a customer goes too far. The best thing for Pfizer to do is to describe all the characteristics of the drug Lipitor—including both the good and bad points—so that customers can gain full knowledge of the product before they purchase it.
