Identify Potential Issues Three topics for the area of my research will be 'Deaths in police custody', 'Police, women and promotion' and 'The recruitment of ethnic minorities into law and enforcement'. Each one is prevalent problem that exist in particular areas of criminal justice.Deaths in police custody: Police custody is a place where the offenders are detained for the period s/he gets the justice by law. Here the offender is not the criminal, as law has still not established it, so s/he should be given proper protection of his/her life but if deaths occur in police custody, it turns into a severe problem.

Deaths in police custody are usually the result of torture to extort information or to teach the person concerned a lesson (Pucl Bulletin October 1981). Leigh, A., Johnson, G. & Ingram, A. (1998) established this as a problem. The police are expected to detain individuals they believe to have broken the law. However, they also have a duty to protect any individual they have arrested or detained for their own safety. It is this dual responsibility that makes any death in police custody disturbing and potentially controversial.

For families of the deceased it can be particularly distressing to learn not only that someone they were close to has died, but also that this happened whilst they were in police custody. For the police officers involved, the death itself will have been traumatic and the resulting inquiries are likely to place them under intense personal pressure.Though this is not possible to fully eradicate this problem, value of correcting this problem will come in terms of social benefits. The detained, the police and the near and dear one of the detainee all will have relief when they will be provided assurance by law not to occur deaths in the custodies.

By any means if the virtual situation of not taking place any death in police custody comes true, the people will not fear to go in the custody. Police, women and promotion: "The lot of policewomen has been a difficult adaptation to a predominantly male-dominated organization. Being traditionally dominated by males, the police organization may become a problematic workplace for policewomen. In a patriarchal society, women are placed at a disadvantage because of gender-related workplace problems that may arise (Melchor C.

de Guzman & Frank J. 2004)". For equal work there should be equal pay and opportunities but for very long time women did not get any promotion in police force due to this discrimination. This problem cause total distrust in the individual and a distrusted woman can not provide her best in the service causing social disturbance. In state of West Bengal, India, "in a force of 45,000-plus, there are only 1,002 women cops in the state. The ratio, female to male cop, is an abysmal 1:45" Haldar, S. (2006). If the problem is solved partially or fully with great difficulties, researches and efforts by providing some strict law, the women will get their right and hence they will be satisfied with their condition so that they can contribute efficiently to the society.

Men will also get relived from the immense pressure in the field due to the 'working-intelligence' of women in the field. The recruitment of ethnic minorities into law and enforcement: Inter-generational studies show that young people from minority ethnic communities raised in countries such as the UK retain negative attitudes towards police and towards a career in law enforcement (Stone and Tuffin 2000), so their recruitment in the law and enforcement become a serious concern for the nations as with negative attitude no one can provide his/her best instead they can cause hindrances to the developments.

The method to correct this problem may be in two way -one no recuitment of such personel in the law and enforcement should be done, second-the measure and steps to be taken to correct the attiute of such persons so that they can give their best to the organization to flourish the nations. The first one is practically not possible so the second one should be adopted.
