The second stage involves partial-thickness of the underlying skin and formation of a shallow crater along with epidermis. In the third stage, PUs lead to loss of thickness and increased widening of the partial thickness crater. Finally, in the fourth th stage, the injury leads to the destruction of the tissues, muscles, and tendons, wherein, the crater is extended to the highest level (Lozano, 2012, pp. 2095-2128). PUs are treated via several methods such as changing positions, use of the dressing, consumption of antibiotics, and intake of nutritional foodstuffs. However, in the majority of the cases, the PUs get treated through Debridement, maggot therapy, and surgical debridement.

The prevention procedures of PUs may inculcate the implementation of several effective steps such as having balanced diets, quitting smoking, and consulting a doctor in case of irritation and change in the color of skin. According to the statistical figures of 2010, around 43,000 people die owing to PUs (Lozano, 2012, pp. 2095-2128). Nurses play a major role in the treatment of PUs by performing certain job duties such as healthcare assessment, determination of the risk stages, regular repositioning, providing effectiveness of support, and managing inconsistencies among others (Lozano, 2012, pp.

2095-2128). On an average of four admissions, the cost incurred in the treatment of PUs is reckoned to be $129,248 & $124,327 specifically for hospital-acquired and community-acquired PUs respectively (Brem, Maggi, Nierman, Rolnitzky, Bell, Rennert, Golinko, Yan, Lyder & Vladeck, 2010, pp. 473-477). Nowadays, PUs has become a common phenomenon, which is observed in almost every patient. PUs is associated with long-term hospitalization, remaining in isolation, a high amount of pain, and even death in several cases.

Saudi Arabia is one such nation, which experiences a high inflow of patients suffering from PUs. General Hospital, particularly the medical and surgical department in Saudi Arabia, deals with providing effective treatment to such patients who suffer from PUs.
