Subtypes of Schizophrenia SchizophreniaFrom National Institute of Mental Health article, schizophrenia is classified as a mental illness that causes disorder in thinking, hallucination and delusion. The articles talk about the prevalence of the disorder. According to the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention, about 1 in 100 people is reported to have such disorder. The statistics show symptoms of schizophrenia is occur more in their late teens and early twenties. The article identifies women that tend to show symptoms a bit late than men.

From the class notes, the information is true about the prevalence of the schizophrenia (Konkel 1).The article also identifies the cause of such disorder. One of the cause is genetic where one gene that have been linked to an increased risk of schizophrenia. When there are defects in some genes, such condition normally arise. The second cause is the brain chemicals which normally increase the risk of the disorder. One of the chemicals being identified is the neurotransmitters. The third main cause is drugged abuse whereby it alters the brain functioning hence it result in the development of schizophrenia.

The above cause discussed is the same cause that was mentioned in the class lecture as the main cause of the schizophrenia disorder (Konkel 3).The articles also explain some of the symptoms of schizophrenia disorder. They include disorganized and delusional thinking, disturbed perceptions which are also called hallucinations and inappropriate emotions and actions. In our class lecture the schizophrenia symptoms were same from the symptoms from National Institute of Mental Health (Konkel 4).Finally the article explains subtypes of schizophrenia as paranoid which is the preoccupation with delusion often with persecution or grandiosity.

Catatonic is characterized by the immobility, extreme negativism and parrot-like repeating of one’s movement.Works Cited
