HOW THE EMERGENCE OF RECENTLY PROMINENT ECONOMICALLY AND POLITICALLY POWERFUL S ALTERS CONCEPTIONS OF CORE AND PERIPHERY (Institutional Affiliation) Key words: emergence, alters Introduction The growth of the world in recent years can be described to be very particularly exemplary with strides being made all across the core and periphery states. By delving into the case study the paper analyzes in depth and details the effects of these emergent states and their role play in altering the conceptions of core and periphery. Foremost, it is pertinent to understand the meaning of ‘core’ and ‘periphery’ as used within the international context. In the international relations scenery, ‘core’ refers to states that are predicated to be the main or super powers of the world or in other terms the central European world (Blagovic, 2010). On the other hand, the ‘periphery’ refers to the states and countries that assume the Far East and Middle East countries. In this regard, for some advanced ideologies it has been presumed that the periphery is the log of the international development spectrum, with more honor and recognition being accosted to the core. Delving into economic prominence, we are met by this view of what is referred to as the underscore of the international benchmark that resonates around a central principal. The principal states that for economic prominence there should be territorial and judisticiary powers that precede the latter. Consequently, economic prominent states is in reference to the fast growing countries that enjoy a stable economy and viewed as political giants in the global context (Lees, 2012). Furthermore, the political prominence is similar to the economic package with the principle of Waever coming into play in that, with economic prominence comes political affiliation and subsequently power and stability. (Buzan, 2003). Emergence of economic prominence The subsequent discussion will be in consideration of a situation where a state enjoys the privilege of having raw materials as well as the ability of using these raw materials to foster any economic transaction both internally and externally to foster a self-sufficient structured economic plan. In this regard, the prominence follows subtly when it can be able to competitively tackle the other states that have a close relation, but is still able to keep abreast midst all the challenges and opposition accosted on her (Blagovic, 2010). However, in analyzing the development of the international phase from the perspective of an economic angle, the bench mark of prominence comes in as the GDP of a country or state. This is what in turn is used as the barometer to determine just who is who in virtue of economic prominence. From Blagovic and Nicholas point of view, the core is the emblem of economic supremacy with most of them found in Europe As the fast developers as dated by time and resources. However, due to differentiation in terms of territory, independence levels and growth rate enjoyed by all these states, economic supremacy is mounted on those that have the ability to sufficiently satisfy their need and demands and liberally hand in help to some semi periphery states that are seen to be struggling to accost the status of self-sufficiency. Economically Prominent States The most notable state from time is the ever lavishing USA, that has from 1703, enjoyed what is believed to be economic thrust and thrive. Most of the accolades have gone to the fact that it has unitarily enjoyed an early entanglement from the chains of lack of independence to foster a fast and stable growing economy. Subtly following this list are the European power houses of British origin as well as the recent Asian comer (china). Arguably, the supremacy that is enjoyed by these states can be attributed to their fast growing economies and precisely the fact that they are accoloaded as the super giants in the economic markets. One can advance that this is not sufficient to mark economic prominence but if you ask me, what more can be used when the very states contesting supremacy are head to head in all other aspects of the nation and international standards. Nicholas Lees, states that ‘these are the forces that determine the world movement………….pg 265’. Emergence of Political Prominence Politics is a whole different ball game as compared to economics (Lees, 2012). The main distinguishing factor that primarily stands out in our determination of supremacy is the length of time enjoyed in terms of independence and self-support. With these parameters in place it becomes quite easy to single out the most supreme purely on this virtue. Take for instance the fact that USA has enjoyed over 200 years of independence as compared to Gabon that has enjoyed far less. On this basis, you expect the standards of political affiliation, responsibility and maturity of USA to be far more distinct than any other. However, there are some exemplary exceptions that have been made and true to this fact I find them more than deserving since they primarily show almost close relations if not similar to states enjoying mighty prominence purely on basis of independence spectrum. A good example of such a situation is the Soviet Union and China, they have not enjoyed the same independence privilege as earlier predecessors but they are close in terms of political affiliation. They are involved in major world decisions, a statute only enjoyed by few states. States that have gone ahead to take the title of political supremacy (Milachnic, 2012). Background to Emergence Just as any idea, transition or theory, there is always the factors to consider as the causes of such undertakings. Similar to the case at hand, there are a handful of reasons and motivations that have seen the need for emergence or as per say are the fuels of the rise of Eco political emergence. Foremost, it is important to delve in the main factor; this comes out as the prominent factor- inequality. Inequality and differentiation Blagovic describes the tear that exists between genders, principalities and states it as the main factor of consideration. A close analysis, reveals see the essence behind the ideology since it is by this reason that some world affairs occurred. Most notably is the colonial era, the first and Second World War and the recent economic resections that cut across the world (Blagovic, 2010). Dealing with gender inequality, women were at one time on the receiving end of human degradation with men primarily taking up the statute of leadership and women given the viceroy and recital duties of being ‘…there to be seen not heard….pg 304 (Lees, 2012). Considering the main need to entangle themselves from this epidemic as per say, women advanced several movements in early 1990s, where they adamantly contested for equal rights and equal gender treatment. One of such was the ‘Omocavanje’ that subsidiary translates to Empowerment. With such advances came the reestablishment of norms in the world giving women equal rights as men hence a nation that quickly assimilated this principle equitably enjoyed economic prominence and subsequently political dominance since a more united and complex work force was established as per earlier where only men were involved (Blagovic, 2010). \ Women empowerment as social alteration Women were at a disadvantage with a lot of factors playing against them residually to the effect of creating a block and entanglement between them and the developing world. Such factors were that; women were easily victimized, lacked the power and ability of confrontation and lacked the platform to begin from. Taking their role in the semi periphery perspective, we can denote that for some amazing reason they were the onsets of the regime of growth. Lustick comes out striking in his article of the absence of Middle Eastern great powers: Political backwardness in historical perspective. International organization 51:4, pp. 653-683 that it’s the very need for woman to get ahead and be equal that stipulated the entanglement from political backwardness. Considering the semi periphery, we are dealing with primarily the central and Eastern Europe affiliates. Now, the core mission for empowerment was to bring democracy and human rights as to this effect you can tell that the very emergence of democracy was the chastity for propelling political dominion hence in one way or the other women empowerment was the true mark of development (Blagovic, 2010). East Europe claimed a high feministic discrimination but in dealing with the matter, it responded equitably by empowering women ; giving women equal work chances as men, principle of fair share of opportunities was fostered and political power was also given to women hence enabling them be involved in diplomatic relations both internally and externally (Marina, 2010). Political alteration When analyzing the political alteration involved by the emergence of states, we have to consider certain parameters; hierarchy, interstate politics, secular or world socio economic development, global stratification of world powers, dynamics of competitive development and governance and regime al come into consideration (Lees, 2012). Hierarchy and anarchy Currently, we are very away of the levels of hierarchy that exists in the Modern world and also those that were perceived in the core and periphery accounts as per say but if you analyze the inner and finer details involved you will come to the conclusion that they are primarily not far or neither do they differ in broad and width. History places Europe (core) as the highest or apex in the levels of hierarchy more primarily due to the fact that none of the core parties faced any prehistoric or post historic setbacks such as colonialism, neo colonialism and the likes. Development in terms of eco political aspects has seen the perceived hierarchy altered with states forcing more supremacy than the earlier annals of hierarchy. Anarchy itself comes into play as the emblem of true hierarchy in order to foster or serve as a patent to power (Lustick, I. (1997). The absence of Middle Eastern great powers: Political backwardness in historical perspective. International organization 51:4, pp. 653-683). Interstate political affairs The emergence of economically and politically prominent states changed the very relations that were in existence. This is in terms of political affairs where stratification was established to distinguish the politically mighty from the others. World socio-economic development The stratification that is purported to exist in the world is what is as a result of the effects caused by the emergence of the political and economic prominence of the core concepts. The main argued point in the core and periphery concept is that, the core maintains the periphery hence it was anchored on the belief that, the core states represented the politically emergent states whose effects have rested the balance of socialism and economics. Socialism has been subsequently been bolstered in that the relations of states at an international level as well as local and national levels. Global stratification of world economies Transcending lower into the effects caused by the emergence of states o the concept of periphery and core, primarily a global stratification was undertaken as explained by Lees, N. (2012). The dimensions of the divide: Vertical differentiation, international inequality and North-South stratification in international relations theory. Cambridge review of international affairs 25:2, pp. 209-230. The stratification is as a result of the disparity that was made as the core states were more advanced and powerful while the periphery still lagged in the dark .Words from Blagovic….’the world is formulated on a principle of global disparity…..pg. 230’ Governance Governance is termed to be the way the rule of law is applied to a people (Lincoln, 1934). The very emergence of states caused what is described as a proximal change in the regime of governance. This is due to the fact that with growing state powers suited on the core, there led a development in a unitary and empirical way of governance that was accepted by the powers involved and assimilated by the periphery. (Lustick, I. (1997). The absence of Middle Eastern great powers 51:4, pp. 653-683). Dynamics of competitive development in Middle Eastern powers as to that of central European powers As we wind up, delving into the comparison caused by the emergence spectrum between the Middle East (periphery) and the central European powers (core) comes at the deserved time. The main point of reference is the d-development concept. Under this concept there are factors of consideration such as; religion, parochial hostilities and the Arab- European relations. Tackling the factors in a nut shell I can sum them whloisticly in a concept advanced by Durkheim- concept of functional differentiation to international relations. It affirmed the influence caused by the progress of the emergent states resulting in a dynamism that was in a way antagonistic to religion and race with more accolade being given to the whites as rather than the blacks and Arabs (Buzan, 2010). Following through the annals of history you get to see that its by such dynamism that colonialism was fostered as expressed by Nicholas lees’ The dimensions of the divide: Vertical differentiation, international inequality and North-South stratification in international relations theory. Cambridge review of international affairs 25:2, pp. 209-230. Conclusion Truly as we delve and analyze the effects caused and related by the emergence of economically and politically stable and prominent states we get to appreciate the stratification that is being experienced in the world today. The global affairs vice versa are at the terms of international relations well anchored on the principle discussed above.
