In such a way, the experience of Italians in the US introduces certain issues of general principles of human life under control of social terms and rules that sets a stamp upon people’s way of life and guides them in their thoughts and deeds. The first theme that finds its realization in the chapter under analysis is people’s so-called life of prisoners in social organization. The fact is that any social system ties humans to its rules, and men are just unable to separate from social organization they used to live in and which is in their head and consciousness already.

The example of the Arenese’s life in Stamford proves this statement primarily due to the fact of their failure of full adaptation to American way of life. Surely, there are certain demonstrations of Italians’ Americanization: loss of patriarchal status of the family, noninvolvement of under-ages into work (as it was in Italia), more or less independent personal choice of marriage partner by children (still with certain amount of parental opinion), non-following of family business and preference of personal life purposes (Gesualdi 12).

Nevertheless, Italians maintain their own culture and bear peculiarities of their social organization in the new location, because their native social organization preserves in its own schemes, which still control their way of life. In this respect, the Arenese’ community the Lega Arena Dasa and its selective principle of membership only in the face of peasants give all necessary proofs of people’s imprisonment within social organization. It is really so, humans keep the same regulations within a smaller community which in practice double the same rules of a larger society.

As we can see, the Arenese create their small Italia within America just because of the same principle. Therefore, people cannot get free of society which has penetrated into their worldview, the same as discharges from prison with long term of penal servitude cannot accept, perceive
