E-etudent library project proposal History and current status French Institute of Technology is based in Washington DC. Since the number of students in the institution is increasing, there is a need to avail the books online, to all the students on different campuses. These campuses include Washington DC, Boston, Denver, New York City and Montreal. The researcher seeks to develop a system where the books shall be availed online, in order to ensure easy and free accessibility to the students on different campuses. Although there existed an e-tudiant system, the previous version faces many challenges. If the challenges are overcome, the student shall escape the fines that prevent them from graduating. Also, the previous system did not contain the books in the full version. This becomes the primary problem that needs to be solved because it has led to the limited accessibility of the books and information. Proposal The primary goal of the project is to ensure accessibility of learning materials to students and other scholars affiliated with the French institute of technology and affiliate institutions. This is by increasing the availability of the books to all students, especially the ones located in remote campuses. Development The project is all about taking learning materials online where they will be easily and quickly accessed by many people from remote places. The project will involve scanning of books and posting them the institution platform where they will be easily accessed. Steps The initial phase is to develop a website with a user-friendly interface. It should be easy to update the website. In this site, previous sources of books shall be integrated into the new site. The next step shall be the search of more materials from publishers and writers. The collected materials will be scanned and stored as Read-only-files (Baumbach et al., 306). When the site is completed, the current students shall be registered, followed by continuous registration of members who shall join the affiliate institutions. After a given period, the site will be open to the public. For a person to access the library, they have to register and get login details that will be used every time they want to access the site. This privilege will be available after payment of registration fee. The fee shall be less than one dollar, in order to ensure the institution will have adequate funds for system maintenance. There shall be continuous updating of the materials, which shall entail uploading of the latest edition of the books and publications. The last step will be making the site available in different languages, in order to make it popular to the global audience (Stromberg et al., 177). Plan of action Table 1 shows the steps that shall be completed in a chronological order. Time( months) Development 1-4 Research on the existing system and establishing the for development 4-6 Development of the web-site 6-10 Addition of materials and sources 10 and above Globalization of the site Below is a flow chart of the process to be gone through for the project to be successful Sources of materials French Institute of Technology Tutorials from teaching professors Google Library Materials from publishers and authors Home Page E-Etudent online library (home page) Login; Email: Password: Book Title Author Author name Date of publication Edition Publisher Name Contact Town/city Links to the bookstore click here Message from the institution Your feedback is valuable in helping us to improve the quality of our services. Please provide feedback through this form. Thank you! @right reserved to e-Etudiant library Assets and resources required The success of this project shall rely on the availability of the resources. In this case, the required resources shall include hardware and software’s resources that are connected to the internet. i. Man power is highly needed to see the project become a success given that they will be the people doing all the works of scanning and updating the databases. Copyright authorizes also needed to allow posting of a variety of materials. ii. In order to integrate all the resources, a CMS (content management system) is needed. It will guide us in task allocation and time frame management of the project. The CMS application will allow publishing, editing and modifying of the content, organizing, deleting and maintenance of the site from a central interface (Moore et al., 127). iii. Hardware required include computers, networking routers, and the servers. Also, there is a need to include a proxy servers, in order to enhance the security of the website. Management The e-Etudient will be managed by an independent department in the French institute of technology. It will have a department head who will be reporting to the institution director. Therefore, the management team shall constitute of; 1. The general manager 2. three supervisors; one will be in charge of personnel, the other in charge of site management and the third in charge of finances and sponsors relation. 3. Technicians He is also to handle relation matters. Financial estimates To ensure that the project is a success the scanning, and another process will have to be done with the highest level of the profession. One book will cost $ 550 to scan to a high-resolution copy. Shall be multiplied by the number of books in the school. 3000*550= $1650000. This cost is to on the lower side given that the books many increases. This cost is on assumption that the institution have all the other hardware.
