Musings on Music by Mary Goetze Reflection After going through this reading, I have developed a deeper understanding as towhy I listen to a particular song, type or genre of music. I have come to realize that every song is quite different from another; even songs of the same genre and this have helped me to understand why I have developed connections to various songs. I now know that music develops an emotional connection inside us providing me with the ability to develop self-knowledge and decode the undefined and unexpressed feelings.

Music is a very dominant tool that is inculcated into our lives. I agree that music has the potential to create a significant influence in our lives, and one area that has intrigued me is how music applies to our emotional lives. On many occasions, I have developed a certain attachment to a particular song that every time I listen to it, I get goosebumps and become overly emotional. I constantly had the opinion that it was the lyrics and the beats that invoked that particular reaction. After understanding the information in this article, I have come to comprehend that there is a much deeper reason for the reactions not just the beats and lyrics.

I recall the first time I listened to this song, I was in the presence of someone that I like but we were not acquainted by then. This reading has helped me to connect the dots and understand that I like this song because it reminds me of someone and feelings that were in play at that particular moment. This reading has equipped me with the right tools that will help me understand my attachment to particular songs. Works CitedGoetze, Mary. Musings on Music.
